Every year and you are all well. The church celebrates today the beginning of the Nativity Fast. Fasting is not hunger; it is life with the Lord Jesus. Fasting is an expression of human love for God. It is the first commandment given to Adam. Jesus started His service with fasting, as did the Apostles and the prophets. Fasting is not about weakening the body, as the body is a trust from God. It is not atonement for sin, as only Christ's blood atones. It is not a medical diet. There are types of fasting: individual, family, and church-wide. Fasting must be for God, accompanied by repentance, prayer, and giving. It is a spiritual training to strengthen the will and control desires, especially the desire for food. Fasting should be guided by a confession father to avoid pride and ensure health.
